Dayspring Staff Spotlights . . .
For this edition of Dayspring’s “Staff Spotlight”, we feature our new Residential Program Manager, Ms.Jennifer Burkhart-Dotterrer. Although she has only been at Dayspring for a month, Jennifer brings a wealth of experience to her new position! When asked about what she enjoys the most about working at Dayspring, Jennifer notes “There is such a focus on the people we provide services for. I believe that this is because we have a CEO that is not like any other. It is apparent on a daily basis that he is truly here for the purpose of providing a fulfilling life for those we serve.” Jennifer recalls walking into Hazel Street for her initial interview and meeting the ladies who reside there and how very welcomed they made her feel. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys musical theatre, traveling, reading, viewing old movies and cooking. She loves spending time with her daughter, taking day trips, attending her dance classes, playing, and exploring the outdoors. When asked about her proudest achievement, Jennifer shared “I am a proud mother of a five year old little girl. She is a source of great happiness and pride.” Jennifer offered the following words of wisdom for new staff or volunteers: “We all came to Dayspring for the same primary reason. It is important that we do not forget the purpose of what we do and that we always remember how fortunate we are to have this opportunity.” In closing, Jennifer shares some of her favorite words to live by: “You don’t stop laughing because you grow old; you grow old because you stop laughing.” - Michael Pritchard ______________________________________________________________________________________
When I think of a “gentle giant”, the calm demeanor and tall frame of Dayspring’s Moro Osumanu immediately comes to mind. He has served our agency in the capacity of Residential Supervisor at Schuylkill Avenue for the past 2 ½ years. Additionally, Moro assists with the Dayspring “food bank”, making sure it is well-stocked for members of our community. It’s evident that the four gentlemen who reside at Schuylkill Avenue share positive relationships with Moro. Moro most enjoys the physical and mental challenge of his supervision duties at Dayspring. He finds the care we provide through Dayspring to be a most rewarding experience! Moro’s fondest memory has been the chance to make a difference by giving back to a family member in return for gifts he has received over a lifetime. In his free time, Moro enjoys sports (including soccer and basketball), reading, and listening to music. He has also been known to play the congas as part of the Dayspring Band! When asked about his achievements, Moro notes that he is proud of his family, his wife and two boys. He is currently pursuing his MBA and graduated from Penn State University on the Dean’s List. Through his scholarly pursuits, Moro has had the opportunity to participate in two internships and currently enjoys volunteering at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bern Township, PA. When speaking about our agency’s future, as a result of our current mission re-examination, Moro would like to see a strategic plan that involves input from both the Dayspring Community and also external sources. From this writer’s perspective, it is felt that Moro would like to see positive communication and sense of a common purpose shared by those who are part of Dayspring’s ministry. For staff or volunteers who are new to Dayspring, Moro offers the following words of wisdom: “Do your best to help participants as much as you can. Share your ideas to help contribute to the growth of Dayspring!” And, finally, Moro offers some words to live by: For our agency, I hope we continue to attract and retain people who are ready and willing to embrace Dayspring’s mission and vision – In other words, “Get the right people on the bus!” – Jim Collins ***************************************
Visitors to Hazel Street will often be greeted by the smiling face of Catherine “Cathy” Bewley, who has worked at Dayspring for almost five years as a Resident Advisor. She recently assumed a new role, Director of Mission, one that she has taken on with much enthusiasm and determination! Cathy most enjoys witnessing the true, unconditional love that we receive from Dayspring Residents and the family atmosphere that our Community provides. She also loves the Divine Mercy Chapel, where Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament is present at all times. Cathy’s fondest memories of her time at Dayspring include people’s cheerfulness and perseverance through illness and the zeal/gusto/charisma with which members of our Community worship. Cathy also likes to be told “I Love You” 72 times a day! In her free time, Cathy raises both houseplants and exotic outdoor plants. She enjoys making Rosaries as well as discovering religious art, statues, and antiques. Cathy is very active in her church, St. Mary R.C. Church in Hamburg, where she is entering her 13th year as a Catechist. Cathy is most grateful for her marriage of 29 years to her husband James and her four wonderful kids: Ivy, 28; Angela, 25; Christian, 22; and Margaret, 19. When asked about our Community’s future, Cathy would like to see Dayspring’s focus remaining on Christ-Centered care in an environment of compassion, love, and mercy. For staff or volunteers who are new to Dayspring, Cathy offers the following words of wisdom: “Although the work is challenging and one must be vigilant in caring for our residents, the rewards are a hundred fold in the love and graces we receive from them.” And, finally, Cathy offers some words to live by: “Holiness consists simply of doing God’s will and in being just what God wants us to be” – St. Therese of the Little Flower
