Message from the CEO - March 2009

Dear Friends and Supporters of Dayspring Homes:

This past year was an especially exciting year for Dayspring Homes. We opened three new homes! We have resumed providing respite care services for the many families in need of these services. Families who need support for their special family member now can get that needed break. We are providing respite services at two residences, both of which are handicapped accessible.

During the past year, we have continued to grow at CrossWalk at Calvary, our licensed Adult Day Training Facility. We are very proud of the individualized services and loving support provided to those who attend our program. Participants who attend CrossWalk at Calvary enjoy a variety of employment, volunteer, social, recreational, and educational opportunities. On occasion, participants will take day trips to places such as: Longwood Gardens, The Capitol Building in Harrisburg, a boat trip on the Spirit of ’76 at Penn’s Landing, shopping at Cabella’s, a tour of the Yuengling Brewery, etc. Due to the significant increase in attendance, we are currently looking to expand our services to a second site. We hope to locate a site that will permit us to sell our “CrossWalk Creations.” It is our goal to expand the employment opportunities for those who choose to be gainfully employed.

As many of you know, last December Sister Francis was winding down her sabbatical and was making plans to return to her Dayspring Homes family. Just before her return, she was called to Rome to meet with the leaders of her order The Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood. During her visit in Rome, she was asked to fulfill a great need of their order.  Sister Francis returned to her Dayspring Home family for just a short time and has been re-assigned to the St. Bernard’s Convent located in Toronto, Canada.

Sister Francis is in charge of their capital building fund-raising campaign to raise the money necessary to build a skilled nursing facility as an addition to their retirement home for their sisters as they age and or become ill. As you know, Sister Francis was given the gift of raising money, and her order called upon her to use this gift to fulfill this great need. In speaking with Sister Francis, she is very sad to be away from her friends and family at Dayspring Homes. She sends her sincere blessings and wishes all good health and continued happiness. Sister Francis communicates as she is able, and plans to visit as often as she is able.

Although Sister Francis’s presence is deeply missed and irreplaceable, her spirit is present in the fore thoughts of everyone here at Dayspring Homes, in all we do…

In closing, I would just to thank all of you who support Dayspring Homes. We at Dayspring are very blessed to have your support. We are also very blessed to have such loving and supportive employees. Dayspring would not be the quality provider of services without the many gifts and talents that our employees possess. During these uncertain economic times, Dayspring continues to be blessed with the financial support of it’s generous benefactors. And more importantly, we continue to be most blessed with the many prayers and well wishes of a loving community. May God continue to bless each you and your loved ones.
